The meeting yielded a white paper that recommends that all medical specialty groups develop and incorporate into their residency programs a set of geriatric competencies that residents should master (http://www.americangeriatrics.org/education/white_paper.pdf). The groups are encouraged to build on the 26 geriatric competencies for medical students established by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in 2007.
