RT Journal A1 Kuehn BM T1 NEw aspirin recommendations JF JAMA JO JAMA YR 2009 FD April 22 VO 301 IS 16 SP 1647 OP 1647 DO 10.1001/jama.2009.539 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2009.539 AB The new recommendations update those issued in 2002 based on more recent data demonstrating that the risks and benefits of preventive aspirin therapy differ between men and women (http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstf/uspsasmi.htm). Accordingly, the task force now recommends aspirin use for men aged 45 to 79 years when the potential benefit of preventing myocardial infarction outweighs the potential harm of increased risk of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and for women aged 55 to 79 years when the potential benefit of reducing ischemic stroke outweighs the risk of increased gastrointestinal bleeding.
