This remarkable book summarizes Edmund Pellegrino's writings by extracting several meaningful essays from his voluminous bibliography. Once again, these point to the dearth of humanities requirements for medical training and highlight the poverty of ethical considerations in medical decision-making. Pellegrino presents a Catholic viewpoint, which he has always emphasized in his teaching at Georgetown. The 17 chapters constitute a synthesis of his thoughts and philosophy, which reflect Catholic doctrine. He insists that ethical considerations should be a part of all medical decision-making.
