The results showed for adults, exposure to parasites posed the greatest risk for developing active convulsive epilepsy; for children, perinatal causes such as head injury during delivery posed the greatest risk. Programs to control parasitic diseases and to provide better antenatal care could reduce epilepsy cases in sub-Saharan Africa.
