Darkened buildings, bright headlights, and a setting sun are the prominent features of Crosstown Street (cover) by the Cuban American painter Emilio Sanchez (1921-1999). It is strange that the light of the sun, still visible in the distance, does not penetrate this urban canyon. If you cover the sky with your hand, all you can see is darkness, headlights, and a few tiny windows. The shapes of the oncoming cars are indistinct, as if your pupils were constricted by the glare.
