In the latest of its congressionally mandated reports on veterans' health following their service in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) defined CMI as having symptoms lasting 6 months or longer in at least 2 of 6 categories: fatigue, mood and cognition, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and neurologic (http://tinyurl.com/bkmt64f).
