To assess the quality of individuals providing primary health care services, the researchers used 22 “standardized patients” trained to memorize and present symptoms for several common conditions with well-known textbook treatment plans. These “patients” made 926 visits to 305 health care workers, presenting symptoms of chest pain, asthma, and dysentery.
