Although we agree with the authors' intention of improving the quality of clinical research, we do not feel that the suggested approach can be realistically implemented or that it will improve the current situation. Thomas and Peterson propose the adoption of a prospectively defined statistical analysis plan (SAP), in which a detailed methodological outline is registered prior to data analysis, and is comparable with what is currently done for clinical trials.
