RT Journal T1 SUggestion in hyperthyroidism JF JAMA JO JAMA YR 2012 FD December 12 VO 308 IS 22 SP 2318 OP 2318 DO 10.1001/jama.2012.3375 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2012.3375 AB Recently a series of cases of hyperthyroidism have been reported in which various operations on the nose and throat have brought great relief of symptoms and sometimes such a remission of the uncomfortable manifestations of the affection as would ordinarily be called a “cure.” In the majority of these cases hypertrophied turbinates were found and various methods of treatment, especially cauterization, were followed by favorable effects on the constitutional affection. Successful treatment of other pathologic conditions of the nose, however, as nasal polypi and spurs on the septum, had a similar beneficial result. The removal of adenoids from the throat and of hypertrophied tonsils had a like favorable action.
