Charles Davis has put a lifetime of experience and passion for infectious disease and microbiology into The International Traveler's Guide to Avoiding Infections. Although the book includes general sections of disease prevention for travel, the unique voice and valuable core of the text are the 31 microbe-specific chapters organized by sections on bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections, with subsections on history, distribution, microbiology, pathophysiology, and diagnosis and treatment, all presented at a level appropriate for the physician not specializing in infectious diseases. The book even includes a chapter on microbiology of organisms, with a section on details of the Gram stain.
