The authors are to be commended for compiling a text that recognizes that not all pediatric emergencies are related to fractures and trauma. Most general orthopedists probably keep fracture textbooks readily available for reference in the middle of the night when they are called on to treat a difficult fracture, but a simple resource to aid in the treatment of problems such as a septic hip and necrotizing fasciitis is not as easy to come by. Coverage of these topics is a great help.
