To the Editor: Dr Toll's A Piece of My Mind1 on the cost of technology included a picture drawn by a pediatric patient of a smiling family in a brightly colored examination room participating in an office visit with a physician whose back was to the patient, typing on a computer. This picture was used to decry the implementation of health information technology and specifically electronic medical record (EMR) use in a real-time fashion in the examination room. I wonder if the article would have been written if the resident had simply turned the computer around.
