In Reply: In the MINIMat trial conducted in Bangladesh, we provided evidence that among pregnant women in poor communities, mortality of the offspring was reduced if MMS was combined with a balanced protein-energy supplementation that began early in pregnancy. Mr Brancatisano and Dr Dibley question whether the effect could be linked to the inclusion of twins in the analysis. They compare the MINIMat results with the published results of a meta-analysis1 of MMS trials that included the MINIMat trial but only with follow-up to age 1 year among singleton births.
