Previously, the VA was hesitant to treat these individuals because they were not considered a high enough priority when allocating resources to address medical conditions that were caused by or emerged during active military service (Mitka M. JAMA. 2012;307[14]:1476). But on July 31, the House passed the Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012 (HR1627 [http://thomas.loc.gov]), which expands VA activities and provides immediate VA health care to Camp Lejeune veterans and their families.
