The atlas has an attractive and somewhat unusual organization and presentation. Each of the 18 chapters begins with a summary of salient points, followed by a series of tables, figures, and graphs, which are briefly summarized in a fashion similar to a slide presentation. This design allows for the inclusion of vast amounts of material and, in most cases, provides messages that are easily understood by the reader. A result is the inclusion of virtually all of the recent critical research data that underlie current understanding of pathogenesis and management of diabetes and its complications.
