RT Journal A1 Wentworth Smith L T1 HUman simulation for nursing and health professions JF JAMA JO JAMA YR 2012 FD September 5 VO 308 IS 9 SP 926 OP 926 DO 10.1001/jama.308.9.926 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.308.9.926 AB For organizations contemplating a human simulation laboratory, a careful review of the construction recommendations outlined in the first section of this text will prove invaluable. The authors of these first 3 chapters provide highly specific, insightful, and experience-born direction on effective “patient” room configurations; filming techniques, including optimal camera and microphone positioning, lighting and soundproofing, digital recording, and web-streaming platforms; and designs for the necessary background staging areas and control room spaces. The information gleaned from this section alone will yield opportunities for saving on laboratory development costs as well as for identifying possible added revenue streams achieved through laboratory sharing with external sources and increased enrollment via distance learning. For readers unfamiliar with writing return-on-investment proposals, a later chapter on business plan development provides useful guidance for this process.
