Many of these chemicals are designed, produced, and marketed largely for specific industrial purposes, but they are also found in some natural foods and may become further concentrated as foods are processed, the society stated. A current concern focuses on the EDC bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial chemical that has been present since the 1960s in many hard plastic bottles and metal-based food and beverage cans.
