Confluent MSCs were detached with 0.05% Trypsin-EDTA (Gibco-Invitrogen).1 Safety measures proposed by the Food and Drug Administration in 2008 for Human Somatic Cell Therapy Investigational New Drug Applications were followed. As discussed, putative MSC identity markers2 were confirmed by flow cytometry prior to each inoculum; also, passage-4 MSCs differentiated in vitro into bona fide mesenchymal tissues (bone, cartilage, fat or muscle).2
