AB In 1930 the author published a book on allergy and applied immunology, and a second edition came out in 1934. Both those works were planned for physician and patient, but now allergy has advanced so greatly that a volume of almost 1,100 pages is needed to present the subject as it concerns the physician alone. The physician who specializes in allergy must nowadays be not only an internist but also thoroughly familiar with the diseases of the skin and those that affect children and must have more than an ordinary knowledge of the conditions affecting the nose and throat. In addition, he must have a good knowledge of botany, bacteriology and parasitic conditions. In this work the author first presents the history and basis of his subject and then proceeds to diagnosis, food allergies, conditions developed by pollens and by bacteria pharmacology, and the specific allergic diseases.
