There are eight chapters: the first deals with a review of studies of the inheritance of mental disease, the second with family stock of manic-depressive patients, the third with the query "Do mendelian laws apply to the inheritance of manic-depressive psychoses?" the fourth with family stock of dementia praecox patients, the fifth with comparative studies of the prevalence of mental disease among relatives of patients and among the general population, and the sixth and seventh chapters with environmental factors in both manic-depressive psychoses and dementia praecox. The eighth chapter contains a summary and conclusions. There is an excellent bibliography and index. One finds in this book a reasonable discussion of these two most important and common mental diseases.
