Donald Lee and Robert Neviaser's Shoulder and Elbow Surgery is an outstanding contribution to Elsevier's Operative Techniques series. The book presents the preferred techniques of luminaries in the field for an extensive number of conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. It is supplemented by a companion DVD and a web version of the entire text. Each chapter focuses on a procedure and often presents multiple procedural methods. The text is presented in an easy-to-read, outline-like style that clearly and quickly delineates the key points. Most of the chapters begin with brief but pertinent sections on indications, evaluation, and imaging, followed by a discussion of the surgical anatomy, positioning, and exposure; those topics are in turn followed by a clear, stepwise outline of the surgical procedure. This outline is well illustrated with large, clear, color figures and intraoperative photographs. Sidebars feature highlights under the headings “Pearls,” “Pitfalls,” and “Controversies.” Sections titled “Postoperative Care,” “Evidence,” and “Pertinent References” round out each chapter.
