In Reply.—The suggestion of Drs Messerli and Grossman that concomitant diuretic use may account for the association of renal cell cancer with the use of calcium channel blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, and β-blockers is plausible. However, it has been difficult to assess the separate effects of diuretics and antihypertensive drugs because they are so often used together.
