Yet our data suggest that most adult use of ADHD medications is relatively short-term. Among the approximately 50% of our study cohort who were new users at cohort entry, 75% had less than 8 months of use; 75% of the prevalent users had less than 15 months of use during follow-up. Nonetheless, some of the prevalent users may have taken ADHD medications for several years. In subgroup analyses, we did not find any evidence of elevated risk among the prevalent users.
