In a statement released March 2, the senators cited a Government Accountability Office report that found CMS had commissioned 3 studies to evaluate the new Quality Indicator Survey (QIS) but had not routinely monitored the extent to which the objectives established for the survey are being met. The QIS is an electronic assessment developed to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of the nursing home assessment process. This survey is expected to be implemented nationally by 2018.
