Although country-level length of stay was an important predictor, we disagree with Dr Andraws that US patients might be receiving suboptimal treatment. By being aware that shorter length of stay may be associated with readmission among some patients, physicians can implement improved patient education and transitional care processes and better identify those higher-risk patients that may benefit from longer hospitalization.
