RT Journal A1 Rice TW, Wheeler AP, Thompson B T1 SUpplementation in acute lung injury—reply JF JAMA JO JAMA YR 2012 FD January 11 VO 307 IS 2 SP 144 OP 146 DO 10.1001/jama.2011.1985 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2011.1985 AB In OMEGA, the supplement was provided as intermittent boluses to separate its effects from the overall quantity of enteral feeds. If the supplement had improved outcomes, the bolus design would have allowed treatment of patients unable to tolerate continuous or full enteral feedings, an important feature given that up to one-third of patients in previous trials were excluded for not tolerating the intervention. The design also allowed us to test for an interaction between OMEGA and EDEN. Although no interaction with EDEN was found (P = .47), early stopping of OMEGA limited us to detecting only a large interaction; we cannot exclude the possibility of a small interaction.
