Researchers used the natural flavonoid scaffold to synthesize nonnatural flavanone molecules and evaluated their antimicrobial effects on 2 types of bacteria (Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis) and the fungal pathogens Cryptococcus neoformans and Aspergillus fumigatus.
