This newly published text arose from a series of articles entitled “Mechanisms of Ophthalmic Disease,” published in Archives of Ophthalmology beginning with the January 1996 issue. Essentially a textbook on the pathophysiology of ocular disease, this first-edition text is the medical companion to the 11th edition of the classic Adler's Physiology of the Eye. The text consists of 704 pages, and it is obvious that a substantial amount of time and effort has gone into the writing and editing. There are 170 contributing authors with expertise in all areas of ophthalmology.
