First, most hospital pathologists do not receive additional payment for
autopsies, and hospitals do not receive payment from families or
insurance companies. Therefore, since autopsies do result in some
direct and indirect expenditures, neither the hospital administrator
nor the hospital pathologist is anxious to correct this educational
deficiency with their medico-legal colleagues.
