For the reasons we stated in our Editorial, we concluded, and still believe, that the biomarkers used in the study by Holt et al have unproven clinical utility. In the absence of formal validation of any of the biomarkers used, the results provide weak evidence for making dietary recommendations, the stated conclusion of the original article,1 and are of limited value for the planning of future research studies, now stated as the conclusion in their letter.
