In Reply: For our study and in using
CONSORT descriptors1 as a "gold standard" for assessing
reporting of randomized clinical trials, we developed and pretested our
instrument using randomized controlled trials in ophthalmology reported
in journals or published in years not included in our study. We have
not tested the instrument using reports of clinical trials in other
disciplines or for interrater reliability and welcome suggestions and
comments from Drs Mago and Crits-Christoph as they test our instrument.
Indeed, at their request, we have forwarded a copy of our data
collection instrument and instructions to them.
