These events are most likely the result of serious adverse effects from the treatment, as shown in our study. We agree with Dr Punt and colleagues that many FAEs could be prevented by better adherence to treatment guidelines and adequate patient care. However, our study, being a meta-analysis, was limited in assessing these issues. The included studies did not contain any information regarding the assessment of the relationship between FAEs and treatment and major protocol violations and monitoring results.
