In Reply.  —My reports were accurate. Dr Coye says I did not mention the program cuts the DHS had to make. In fact, I discussed California's $6 billion deficit in the second column of the first page and quoted Dr Coye's statement that her department had "been forced to eliminate $300 million in medical services." My first article concerned the recent California superior court ruling that Coye's attempted diversion of antitobacco media funds was illegal. According to spokespersons for the ALA of California, the DHS canceled eight of the ALA's 11 grants after the ALA made it clear that it would take Dr Coye, the DHS, and Governor Pete Wilson to court if they went ahead with the diversion. Dr Coye claims here that the ALA endorsed her confirmation. However, Charles Mittman, MD, president of the ALA of California, says this isn't so.Because the ALA was suing Coye and
