To the Editor.— An 18-year-old man with cyanotic congenital heart disease (corrected transposition with tight pulmonic stenosis and ventricular septal defect and a Blalock-Taussig shunt) began to complain of increasing cyanosis and dyspnea after riding his bike the one mile to and from his home and school.His symptoms suggested that he was outgrowing his shunt and preparations were begun for studies at the local medical center. Just before his admission, however, his mother canceled it, explaining that the au pair staying at her house had asked why Jason insisted on riding a bike with two flat tires. The addition of 70 psi of air to his bicycle tires ended his complaints.
