Danger of Infection from the Cigar-Clipper

ABSTRACT

To the Editor:  —An incident which recently occurred forcibly called to mind the danger from the use of certain public articles, in this case the cigar-clipper. I was standing in a restaurant talking to a friend when a man came in who, as I knew, was afflicted with syphilis of rather recent inoculation. He had mucous patches in his mouth at the time. He bought a cigar and put it in his mouth. He then remembered that had forgotten to clip the end of the cigar, so he took the cigar from his mouth and clipped it in the clipper standing near. The next man after him might easily contract the disease. is needless to say that I have never since cut off the end of a cigar in a public cigar-clipper.
