This magnificent textbook of physiology, written in Hungarian for medical students, has been faultlessly translated into German by A. Farago. A translation into English or Interlingua would be extremely valuable. Parts 1, 4, 6, and 7, written by Bálint, deal respectively with the blood and milieu intérieur, renal function, chemistry and energetics of metabolism, and the neuroendocrine system. Parts 2 and 3, contributed by Harsing, deal with the cardiovascular system and with respiration. Parts 5 and 9, written by Fekete, discuss digestion and sense organs. Parts 8 and 10, contributed by Adam, deal with the neuromuscular system and the central nervous system.
The field of human physiology is thus covered, and with concreteness of detail and clarity of expression that deserve the gratitude of students. Features of special interest include a compact exposition of the structure and function of the limbic system and an excellent discussion of cybernetics. The bibliography
