Dr. Murray L. Janower: This is the first admission to Massachusetts General Hospital of this 15-yr-old male whose chief complaint was recurrent right lower lobe pneumonia. He had been hospitalized elsewhere with this diagnosis 30 mo, 12 mo, and 1 mo prior to this admission. His symptoms 1 mo ago were severe dyspnea, pain in the right chest, and a temperature of 103.6 F (39.8 C). He was treated with penicillin, codeine, acetylsalicylic acid, and oxygen, and responded promptly to treatment, as he had previously.
His chest roentgenogram was reported to have reverted to normal following his illness 30 mo ago, and to have shown some residual changes following the other two episodes. The patient had no exposure to tuberculosis. There had been fractures of the skull and of the leg in an accident at the age of 2 1/2 yr.
