Physiology for Physicians
A welcome addition to medical literature is a new monthly publication sponsored by the American Physiological Society and designed, not for the physiologist, but for the practicing physician. The format is appealing—a six or eight-page folder, well printed. The subscription rate, $3.00 per year, is modest. Each issue is a single article, written by a prominent authority, which presents to the practicing physician some new advance in physiology. So far three numbers have appeared. The first issue contains a presentation by Irvine H. Page, entitled "Physiological Thinking and Your Hypertensive Patient." The February number, by Stewart Wolf, discusses "Emotion and Disease." The March issue, devoted to "Pulmonary Surfactant and Atelectasis," by Mary Ellen Avery and John Allen Clements, makes vivid and clear some of the newer findings in pulmonary physiology.Future issues promise admirable fare. Topics scheduled for subsequent publications include the physiological effects of smoking and
