This issue of The Journal (p 81) inaugurates a new format and a new policy for the "Book Reviews" section, which henceforward will be called "The Book Forum." Several changes are involved. To allow greater freedom of treatment and to obtain wider coverage, all new publications received in this office will be placed in one of three categories. Some volumes will receive full-length, signed reviews as heretofore. Others, in a new section entitled "In Brief," will receive short descriptive and critical comments of 20 to 50 words, unsigned. All books not included in these two categories will be enumerated in the "Other Books" section.
"The Book Forum" is committed to a policy of prompt publication. A major obstacle in reaching this goal is the delay encountered between sending out a book to a reviewer and getting back from him the critical review. One function of the editor is to needle
