The purpose of this symposium was to discuss selected topics concerning the normal and abnormal circulation of the fetus and infant. A distinguished panel of 35 experts presented papers which were organized into the following sections: (1) Physiology of the Fetal Circulation, (2) Physiologic Adjustments in the Newborn, (3) Hemodynamic and Biochemical Abnormalities in the Newborn with Heart Disease, (4) The Pathology of the Heart in the Transition Period, (5) Electrocardiography, (6) Surgery of the Heart and Great Vessels in the First Six Months of Life. Selected guests took part in the discussions of each paper.
The book provides the edited presentations of each expert and limited discussion. Pertinent tabular and photographic figures are included, but unfortunately, not the data of the discussors' slides.
