ABSTRACT

Grants, Awards  The director of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research was recently honored by the Association of Military Surgeons in the United States for developing tropical disease research in Southeast Asia.Col William D. Tigertt, MC, USA, received the 1966 Gorgas Medal on the basis of his contribution to the field of preventive medicine.The citation with the medal honors Col Tigertt "for his foresight, imagination, and professional skill in conceiving and directing a comprehensive Southeast Asia medical program" indicating he has made "truly noteworthy contributions in the field of infectious diseases of military significance." The medal is sponsored by Wyeth Laboratories, and honors Maj Gen William Gorgas whose work in preventive medicine made possible the construction of the Panama Canal.The citation, medal and a $500 honorarium were presented to Col Tigertt during the annual convention of the Association of Military Surgeons of the US.An additional
