Men and women have in some ways reversed their attitudes toward sexual intercourse in the last 25 years, a California psychiatrist believes.
Ralph R. Greenson, MD, stated that it was his definite impression that women are becoming "sexually more assertive and demanding" while men and the youth of this generation are displaying attitudes of "sexual apathy."
Clinical Findings
Dr. Greenson, clinical professor of psychiatry, UCLA School of Medicine, said that his impressions were prompted by clinical findings in the private practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis."In using the term sexual apathy," said Dr. Greenson, "I refer to behavior which indicates a conscious indifference, disinterest, unconcern and coldness toward sex." He explained that this was a "conscious phenomenon" because it is a wellknown fact that people may react and behave as if they had no sexual appetite while closer scrutiny will reveal hidden and distorted manifestations of libido.
