ABSTRACT

Dr. Friedberg has produced a monumental book. As sole author of this third, and extensively revised edition, Dr. Friedberg brings together by means of an extensive bibliography the latest clinical and research developments in the repidly expanding field of cardiology.

Among the many admirable features of this book is its completeness. This up-to-date volume is heavily referenced, and as a major improvement over the previous edition, all references since 1956 include the full title of the article. About one fifth of the book deals with various aspects of circulatory failure, and the author should be highly commended for unifying recent complex developments in this area into a lucid, clear, and all-encompassing presentation. Cardiac therapy, from open-heart surgery to pharmacotherapy with the newer diuretics such as ethycrinic acid, is well presented.
