More power lawn mowers than ever before—an estimated 25 million in all—will be in use in the United States before this year is over.
Grass-cutting conditions vary around the nation. So do estimates of personal injuries directly attributable to power mowers. The estimates range from 55,000 to 80,000 a year and, for the most part, are based on projections from community studies.
"Many of these injuries are relatively minor," William V. White of the US Public Health Service told the Government - Industry Seminar on Power Mower Safety. "But," he continued, "a large number are disabling, some permanently, and a few are fatal."
