This text represents the papers of a recent conference on vascular surgery. The original material, transcribed and revised, is published with profuse illustrations, as a text of vascular surgery. A multiauthored work can be coordinated into a coherent treatise when the individual chapters are properly integrated and the material is well edited. Unfortunately, this work fails because of inadequacy, both of chapter integration and editorial care.
A number of important subjects are omitted: the post-phlebitic extremity, amputation, the vasomotor disturbances (eg, Raynaud's disease) and the thoracic outlet syndrome. The longest and most detailed chapter is "Radiographic Studies of the Lymphatics," but nothing is written about the clinical handling of lymphatic disorders. Furthermore, there is frequently a marked discrepancy between the importance of a subject and the relative space allotted to it.
