The first edition of this book, appearing in 1952, represented the first major treatise on bone tumors since Geschickter and Copeland's text. The second edition in 1959, larger by some 82 pages, added chapters on periosteal lesions, osteoblastomas and joint lesions. The current edition is now larger by 27 additional pages, which include a new chapter on unusual benign and malignant chondroid tumors. Not everyone will agree with the interpretations offered here, as the author points out, but it is appropriate that these lesions be recognized. All chapters show evidence of updating on the basis of additional information.
The book is primarily a pathology text, emphasizing radiologic and gross appearance and histology. Appropriate remarks, correlating clinical findings and follow-up studies with treatment, are included. The lucid writing makes for comfortable reading, and illustrations are well chosen and clear.
