ABSTRACT

Medicare Advisory Group Named.—  The 16-member Health Insurance Benefits Advisory Council was appointed to help formulate policies for administration of the medicare program.Chairman of the council is Kermit Gordon, former director of the Budget Bureau, who is now vice-president of the Brookings Institution.The membership was drawn from the fields of health, medicine, nursing, business, labor, and insurance. Nine of the members are physicians, all members of the American Medical Association.In a statement, President Johnson said the success of the program "which means so much to our older people will depend in considerable part on the help provided by the many professional groups and organizations which will contribute to its administration."One of the members is Samuel Sherman, MD, chairman of the AMA's Council on Legislative Activities.The advisory council, provided for in the Health Insurance Benefits legislation, includes the following members:William E.
