Outline of Orthopaedics.
By John Crawford Adams. 5th ed. 471 pp, 328 illus. $7.50. Williams & Wilkins Co., 428 E Preston St, Baltimore 2, 1964Fundamentals of Orthopaedics was written primarily for the medical student, as a basic introduction to the rapidly expanding field of orthopedics. Its 14 chapters cover congenital disorders, arthritis, infections, bone tumors, and musculoskeletal disorders of the various areas of the body. A chapter on fracture management presents the basic principles, but the management of compound fractures is treated in a brief paragraph and might have been enlarged. In the chapter on arthritis, the orthopedic surgical correction of deformities is completely omitted from the section on treatments and some of the newer concepts should have been included. The general format of the book is very good and the illustrations, both roentgenograms and drawings, are of excellent quality and reproduced very well.
