Essential Radiology for Sports Medicine provides a concise and well-formulated review of the imaging of common sports-related injuries. Like most texts on this subject, this reference work heavily emphasizes magnetic resonance techniques and imaging findings. Where applicable, the authors also discuss plain radiographic findings that may herald underlying soft tissue injury, such as the fracture of the fibular head, which suggests an avulsion of the lateral collateral ligament of the knee. A unique feature is that each chapter includes brief discussions on the role of ultrasound in the evaluation of sports injuries. As use of musculoskeletal ultrasound becomes more widespread in the United States, this text will serve as a helpful introductory guide for radiologists and sports practitioners unfamiliar with the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal structures.
