CASTOR-OIL IN THE TREATMENT OF NEURALGIA.

ABSTRACT

Three years ago, Dr. A. J. Ochsner, of this city, called my attention to the value of castor-oil in the treatment of neuralgia, particularly of the fifth nerve. He stated that he had seen this substance recommended in a German medical journal, but was not able to give the reference. Since that time I have diligently examined the literature, but have been unable to find the article in question. Dr. Ochsner said that his results in the treatment of facial neuralgia had been brilliant, he having had as many as thirteen consecutive cases that had come to the surgical clinic at Rush Medical College for operation, all relieved, or greatly improved, by the use of castor-oil. While I can not report a series of cases as lengthy and successful as those treated by Dr. Ochsner, yet the results of this method in my hands have been superior to those of
